Alaska Law Enforcement Agency Accreditation Commission (ALEAAC) . At this Institute Greg was introduced to an alternative to another typically cost-prohibitive law enforcement agency accreditation program. Understanding the similarities facing most rural law enforcement agencies, Greg began the process of developing an Alaskan law enforcement agency accreditation process. The AMLJIA and the Alaska Chiefs of Police Association (AACOP) favored the concept, and in January, 2005 a pilot project was initiated. Chiefs of Police from several Alaskan police departments are now working together to develop and approve professional standards for an Alaskan law enforcement agency accreditation program.

Fox Valley Technical Institute’s Police Records Management System , Hazard, KY; December 2003; Participant. Greg was invited to participate in a field test of the recently developed police records management system developed by the Fox Valley Technical Institute. Part of their project included providing computer workstations for two Alaskan police departments in need of RMS, at no cost to the departments. The workstations were delivered to the police departments, installed, and training delivered to department personnel.

FIDO (Field Identification Drug Officer) , Washington, D.C.; December, 2003; Consultant. ‘Drug Lab in a Box,’ utilizing Raman laser technology; new, portable technology available that uses Raman Spectroscopy to identify drugs; discussed viability of fielding it for use by law enforcement to help reduce the backlog of cases awaiting testing in the crime labs.

Accrednet , Newport, KY; April, 2004; Attendee. An association of state law enforcement accreditation managers from around the nation.

Rural Law Enforcement Technology Institute , Richmond, KY; December 2004; Presenter. Greg was invited to Richmond, KY to present an overview of the projects being developed and evaluated by the National Law Enforcement Corrections Technology Center – Northwest (NLECTC-NW). Program Managers and Practitioners from around the nation met for a week of information dissemination and review of responsive technology assistance currently being tested or deployed.

First Annual Rural Law Enforcement Technology Institute , Lake Tahoe, NV; May 2003; Presenter. “Rural Law Enforcement in Alaska.”

Law Enforcement Management Institute , Anchorage, AK; February 2005; Coordinator. Dave Wareing to return to Alaska and deliver a 40-hour block of instruction. Topics included: Managing the Organizational Environment, Managing the Media Relationship, Managing Crisis Incidents, Positive Personnel Management, Leadership in Police Organizations, Managing Civil Liability, and Employment Legal Issues. An afternoon of technology presentations from NLECTC-NW was included.

Village Public Safety Officer Regional Training , Unalaska, AK; March, 2005; Instructor. Crime Scene Management and Investigation.

SkidCar Skid Avoidance Systems , Fairbanks, AK; April, 2005; Facilitator/Instructor. Eight driving instructors from Alaska were brought to Fairbanks to develop advanced ‘capacity building strategies’ utilizing the SkidCar Skid Avoidance System. This was a coordinated venture between AMLJIA, the Alaska Police Standards Council, NLECTC-NW, and the Fairbanks Police Department.
